Soft-edge Appliqué

Soft-edge appliqué is a machine technique done with a straight stitch. It can be used in a Broderie Perse Updated approach with printed fabrics such as roses. Students who have taken the Landscape Painting class can continue their pieces, but anyone can do the class with commercial fabric as a background. You will bring a landscape photo to interpret in fabric. 3 or 6 hr.

Wall Quilts

Want to learn three exciting techniques and make a small quilt using all three?  Fabric painting, soft-edge machine appliqué and machine quilting will all be taught in the class. You will work toward having a small wall-hanging with yourfavorite landscape as inspiration. We will learn how to use fabricpaints and then paint a landscape. The details and extra touches are added with soft-edge machine appliqué. It is a method done mostly with a straight-stitchwhich is still very strong and machine washable. A border of patchwork can be used to frame the quilt. Some instruction in blending printedfabrics and painted work will be included. Once the top is done we will machine quilt it using  machineembroidery as the inspiration. Quilting in the ditch, free-machine quilting and fill-in techniques will all be explored. A sewing machine is necessary for this class. Zigzag stitch capability is better, but optional. Fabric paint will be provided for a fee of $5.00.
This class can be done as a 2 day class without the quilting. 18 hr. or more.
